Today we talked in class about the society and culture in Mesopotamia.

Society

•    Privileged groups:

1. Aristocracy:

                - King's family
                -  Nobility

            * They owned most of the land.
            * They occupied the highest goberment possitions.


     2. Priest:

            * They controled religious rituals.

     3. Civil servants:

               - Like scribes

                  * They can:
                           - read
                           - write
                           - count

• Most population were free (except slaves):

    4. Peasants:

            - They rented king's land

            - cultivated:

                          * baley

                          * wheat

                          * beans

   5. Craftsmen:

           - worked in workshops

           - They were:

                   * weavers

                   * carpenters

                   * jeweller

  6. Women:

          - men's property

          -  half salary

Religion

            - polytheistic: believed in many gods

               - god were similar to humans but immortals

               -Temples: gods residences: ziggurats

First schools
